East Yorkshire’s Scandinavian community held its biggest event of the year at the weekend with its Christmas Market at the Danish Church and Nordic House. The market, which again attracted visitors from across the north as well as neighbours from round the corner, dates back to the 1960s and is the result of a huge Crowds flock to Scandinavian Christmas Market

A well-travelled author, English teacher and musician entertained guests at the monthly lunch in Nordic House with stories from his novels and his time living in Denmark. Chris Speck spoke to the audience of about 20 after the lunch and demonstrated his personal links with Denmark by praising the food and even saying a few Author recalls his time in Denmark in lunch presentation

An organisation which is working to return an old steam trawler to her home in Hull will provide an update on its campaign with a presentation at Nordic House as part of Heritage Open Days. Representatives of The Viola Trust will unveil a “work in progress” high-tech recreation of the trawler built at Beverley in Viola Trust to present on trawler history project

Nordic House will once again showcase some of its history as it opens for Heritage Open Days 2023 Charlotte Theill, Manager of Nordic House and The Danish Church, will welcome visitors to the building on Friday 15 September and Saturday 16 September from midday until 4pm. Displays will cover the history of The Danish Church Nordic House open for Heritage Open Days

A choral anniversary brought members of Hull Community Voices to Nordic House as they celebrated 20 years singing in the city. The group partnered with the barbershop chorus Humber Harmony and the female barbershop chorus Three Crown Sound for an afternoon of singing which raised money for Hull Help for Refugees and Hull Food Bank. Nordic House will present the first annual Hull Radical Book Fair next month. The event will take place on Saturday 12 August from 11am until 4pm and was fully booked with stalls within weeks of being announced by the organisers. Among the organisations planning to attend are Yorkshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Hull Wildlife Protectors, Radical Book Fair is a first for Hull
